Goals for the cover redesign included an wider image area for more versatility in cover image choices, a larger callout for the issue theme, and space for more coverlines. The winning designing kept the knockout style of the original but with a layout that provided more flexibility for design elements.

Inside Pages

Articles

The original article header designs mirrored the cover’s long black panel, which felt dated and heavy. I lightened things up by placing the column header across the top and moving some page elements to the end of the article.

Table of Contents

Lighter rules and type styles lightens up the Table of Contents, and expanding it to two pages gave content more white space and room for additional design elements.
